Why I expect big companies to back BLM

Jaya's thoughts

A part of this speech by American rapper, songwriter, actor, and activist really made me listen:

“When South Africa suffered apartheid, you had [politicians in America] saying ‘Coca-Cola we love you, but if you don’t pull out of South Africa we’re gonna leave. We’re not drinking Coca-Cola anymore’, Coca-Cola jumped on their side and apartheid ended”

This. This makes a difference. Money talks. If you’re wondering why it’s so important that big companies are behind BLM and supporting equality, THIS is why. We have to make small changes as people but also make big changes to businesses and as a society or things stay the same. Life remains cripplingly unfair, people suffer quietly and society forgets there is a problem as it has for the last 30+ years in the UK.

From now on, I will have high expectations for the companies I'm buying from. I expect them to lead the change and demand a fairer world because they have the tools to do it. If they’re not using them I will spend my hard earned money elsewhere.
